Lördagen den 5 november 1991 påträffades en ung kvinna död vid Svartholmen i Vassorfjärden. När polisen inledde sin utredning hade de ingen aning om hur lång tid som skulle krävas innan det här uppdraget skulle nå sin avslutning. Det gick ganska snabbt att fastställa kvinnans identitet och dödsorsak, men gärningsmannen lyckades länge dra sig undan polisens avslöjande. Ytterligare en kvinna skulle han hinna mörda innan han kunde gripas. Ett märkligt sammanträffande var att båda hans offer bar namnet Pia.
