Als das kleine Zebra sein Spiegelbild im Wasser entdeckte, war es von seiner Schönheit so angetan, dass es von nun an regelmäßig zur Wasserstelle ging, um sich zu bewundern. Nach kurzer Zeit genügte dies aber nicht mehr und es bat die Affen, die in der Nähe der Herde lebten, viele Spiegel zu besorgen, damit es sich immer und überall bewundern konnte. Danach entdeckte es einige Schwachstellen an seinem Äußeren. Die Affen gaben vielerlei Ratschläge, auch wie es anmutiger laufen sollte. Mit in den Himmel gereckten Kopf stolzierte es umher und gefiel sich immer mehr.
