Die Londoner Zeitung "The Daily Chronicle" hatte berichtet, ein Gefängnisaufseher sei entlassen worden, weil er einem hungrigen Kinde, das im Gefängnis eingesperrt war, ein paar Cakes zu essen gegeben habe. Darauf richtete O. W. folgenden Brief an den Herausgeber des Blattes.

It was originally published in 1892.
