He became a worldwide icon through his screen persona, the Tramp, and is considered one of the film industry's most important figures. His career spanned more than 75 years, from childhood in the Victorian era until a year before his death in 1977.

Edith Norma Shearer (August 11, 1902 – June 12, 1983) was a Canadian-American actress who was active on film from 1919 through 1942. Shearer often played spunky, sexually liberated women. She became the first five-time Academy Award acting nominee, winning Best Actress for The Divorcee in 1930.

Deborah Jane Trimmer (September 30, 1921-October 16, 2007), known professionally as Deborah Kerr, was a British actress who was nominated six times for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Kerr was known for her roles as elegant, ladylike but also sexually repressed women who deeply yearn for sexual freedom. Kerr won a Golden Globe Award for her performance in the 1956 musical film The King and I. The following recording includes clips from a variety of tv interviews.

Audrey Kathleen Hepburn (May 4, 1929-January 20, 1993) was a British actress born into an aristocratic family in Brussels, Belgium. Recognized as a film and fashion icon, Hepburn won an Academy Award for 1953's Roman Holiday (with nominations for Sabrina, The Nun's Story, Breakfast at Tiffany's and Wait Until Dark), an Emmy Award, two Golden Globe awards, a Grammy Award, and 3 British Academy Film Awards. The following recording is from a 1988 tv interview.

Lillian Diana Gish (October 14, 1893-February 27, 1993) was an American actress whose career spanned 75 years, from 1912, in silent film shorts, to 1987. Gish was called the First Lady of American Cinema, and is credited with pioneering fundamental film performance techniques. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Duel in the Sun and in 1971, she was awarded an Academy Honorary Award for her career achievements. The following recording is from a 1950 interview.

David Wark Griffith, best known for directing the 1915 film "The Birth of a Nation," is considered one of the most influential figures in the history of the motion picture, pioneering many aspects of film editing and expanding the art of the narrative film. In 1919, together with Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks, Griffith founded the movie studio United Artists, with the goal of enabling actors and directors to make films on their own terms. In this 1930 recording, actor Walter Huston and director DW Griffith discuss Griffith's film "The Birth of a Nation."

Jeffrey Tambor doesn't work without Marie Larkin, Transparent's hair and wigs guru. In this interview, she convinces us that half the puzzle of character development is solved in the hair studio. (She has enough wigs in her personal collection to furnish 60 extras with '90s locks!) Marie has worked with Jeffrey since the beginning of his career, and talks about their partnership that - despite getting off to a rocky start - ended up lasting a lifetime.

The following two recordings include Mr. Rogers' speeches for his 1997 Emmy Award, and his 1999 induction into the TV Critics' Television Hall of Fame. In the second clip, wheelchair-bound Jeff Erlanger, who had appeared on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood as a boy, surprises Mr. Rogers with his on-stage presentation. Mr. Rogers goes on to address the audience of television celebrities and producers, and asks the poignant question, "How do we make goodness attractive?"
