Story0
The great fantasy writer Lord Dunsany wrote very little in the way of fantasy after the onset of the First World War. This was partly because he was busy, having volunteered in 1915 and becoming a Captain in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in Derry. However, the reality of the world bore in on our hero at this time, and it is not difficult to imagine that his heart moved to more serious concerns. Dunsany’s days of high fantasy, it seems, ended with the emergence of civil unrest in his nation.

The narrator, speaking before a scientific conference, describes his former life as an ape. His story begins in a West African jungle, in which a hunting expedition shoots and captures him. Cozy up, commute to work, or do whatever you were doing before you found this show! I’m Maddie Moore, your host of this podcast all about books (kinda). Let’s have all the conversations about LITERALLY anything that has to do with reading. Yes, we talk about books and authors. But of course there will be episodes dedicated solely to movies like “Clueless”, “Anyone But You”, and all the other novel/play adaptations - because we don’t have to read Shakespeare to enjoy his stories. Join me every Thursday for your choice of either a long haul episode or a shorter, bite-sized show!
