Since the Nakba in 1948, countless Palestinians have been permanently displaced from their country due to the establishment of the state of Israel on Palestinian land. Since the conflict in October 2023, 36,171 Palestinians have been killed as of May 29, 2024 due to the genocide in Gaza, with approximately 1.7 million people being displaced (Source: UN OCHA). On February 28, the Centre for Human Rights Research held a virtual panel on Solidarities and Connections with Palestine through a Zoom webinar. The panel sought to identify and develop connections between Treaty 1 and Palestine.

From the start of Barack Obama's presidency in 2009, conservative populist groups began fomenting political fractiousness, dissent, and surprising electoral success. The Tea Party was one of the major characters driving this story. But, as Khadijah Costley White argues in this book, the Tea Party's ascent to major political phenomenon can be attributed to the way in which partisan and non-partisan news outlets "branded" the Party as a pot-stirrer in political conflicts over race, class, and gender.
