Viva Durant, New Orleans’ youngest detective, is on a quest to solve a jazzy mystery. Every summer, Viva heads to New Orleans to spend time with her loving but stern Grandmother, known as Gram. After Gram reads Viva an article in the local paper about a missing treasure related to the world-famous song, “Miss Mary Mack”, Viva heads through the Crescent City on an epic adventure to track down the treasure. The clues lead Viva to the French Quarter, a jazz club, a creepy cemetery, and even the circus.

Betsy Bow-Linnet is determined to become a world famous concert pianist like her parents. There's just one problem: no matter how hard she practises she doesn't share their musical talents. So when a mysterious letter arrives from a woman claiming to know of an unusual method that will make Betsy's playing stupendous, Betsy jumps at the chance. There's just one condition: she must keep the method a secret.

Classmates Imani and Samir are practicing xylophones in the music room during recess when they notice a spider dancing to their beat. While Imani helps Samir overcome his fear of spiders, Samir helps Imani learn to play the xylophone part she's been struggling with. Fascinated by the spider, Imani composes a song about 'Octavia, the music room spider.' They decide to keep their discovery a secret.
