In the remote South African bush, the Ballantynes have captured the villainous Josef Gerhard and made him their prisoner. Seltsame Dinge gehen vor auf der Nordseeinsel, auf der Opa Heinrich und Otto gerade Urlaub machen: Dinge verschwinden auf mysteriöse Weise und im alten Kapitänshaus scheint es zu spuken. Also eilen Lotta und Oma Berta auf die Insel, um dem verschwundenen Verschwinder auf die Spur zu kommen und so manch andere Frage zu klären: Was hat der alte Maler mit der ganzen Sache zu tun? Was ist das für ein seltsames Leuchten am Himmel?
