الحداثة الفلسفية تقوم على أسس منهجية تلغي كل حقيقة دينية فوقية، ولا تعترف بأي مصدر للمعرفة خارج إطار هذه الأسس. فالذاتية (الأنسنة) كأحد هذه الأسس، تقرّ بامتلاك الإنسان الحقيقة وحده، فهو معيار الخير والشر، والحق والباطل، هو مقياس لكل حقيقة، ولا حقيقة تأتي من خارج الإنسان، ويأتي العقل بوصفه أحد هذه الأسس أيضًا ليُخضع كل المسلمات في الدين والأخلاق والعلم لمعياره، أي عقلنة الأشياء.
