Grief-stricken following the death of his baby son, surgeon Dan Lewis is struggling to make sense of it all as his marriage collapses. His work is his lifeline. Physician Cathy Moreland needs time to heal, having recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder while struggling with a painkiller habit.
