Im Stammlager Auschwitz, inmitten eines Männer-KZ, ließ die SS-Lagerleitung Anfang 1943 ein zweistöckiges Gebäude, den Block 10, vom übrigen Gelände abtrennen. In ihm wurden jüdische Frauen eingesperrt, meist mehr als 400, auf engstem Raum.
