Cut Cable, a morbid little fever dream about death. When the characters of various Night Sky studios programs find out their lives are nothing more than filmed entertainment media it’s no less than a world shattering revelation. With their newfound perspective they soon find that Night Sky has gone bankrupt and as such, the power bills of the studios are getting neglected. And when you’re a little computer file hidden within the servers of the basement, you know, when the lights go out, so do you.

Commissioned by Etruria Canals Festival Group, The Short Cut grew out of discussions amongst Social Agency group members about their memories of the canals in Stoke-on-Trent. Based on a true story, The Short Cut tells of day in the life of two teenagers in the early 1980s. Funded by Arts Council England, with additional support from Comic Relief Community Fund and Stoke-on-Trent Community Investment Fund.

Cole, an old sea captain, lives on a ship with his daughter and her immigrant husband. The trio prepares for a deluge, while Cole meets Daphne, a mermaid who seduces and tempts him. As tensions rise with the rolling tides, Cole must make a difficult choice: take a leap into the unknown, or stay on the safe side. This is a story about connection and separation, about tolerance and the decision to cut ties.
