On May 1st, 2067, the world fell. One thing Zebadiah Pratt - or Zee to his friends - won’t abide, though, is slavery, even in a Fallen World. So when friends of his find a shipment of gene-modified child slaves, he knows something must be done. There’s only one problem: The slaves came from an island owned by the infamous Dr. Laroue, a noted geneticist and the creator of many of the imprints the Obsidian Corporation used to create its super-soldiers. He’s going to need help.

Nachdem sie nur knapp dem Tod entkommen ist, verschlägt es Isy nach Bergstein. Auf dem Burgberg schließt sie sich einer Gruppe Überlebender an, in der es jedoch immer wieder zu Konflikten kommt. Soll sie gehen oder bleiben? Auch der Plan ihres Anführers Axel, nach Burg Nideggen überzusiedeln, wird durch eine Horde Schleicher zunichtegemacht. Die Situation spitzt sich zu, die Stimmung untereinander wird immer angespannter.

Isy musste ihren Freund und dessen Sohn töten, um nicht selbst getötet zu werden. Was mit ihnen geschehen ist, weiß sie nicht. Sie weiß nur, dass sie fliehen muss, um nicht selbst zu einer dieser fleischfressenden Kreaturen zu werden. Ihr Nachbar nimmt sie bei sich auf, lehrt sie den Umgang mit Waffen. Doch als er Isy und ihren Vater in Gefahr zu bringen droht, lassen sie ihn zurück und suchen Unterschlupf in einer Polizeistation, in der es nur so von ihnen wimmelt: Schleichern! Die Frage, was mit den Menschen geschehen ist, wird verdrängt von der Frage: Werden wir morgen noch leben?
