In the aftermath of the Battle of Hastings, Styrkar, loyal housecarl to the fallen King Harold, journeys to Ireland in search of the dead king's exiled sons. When a plot to murder Harold's widow and infant son is uncovered, duty pulls him in a different direction. Fleeing back to England with the dowager and child, Styrkar's loyalties are tested as he's forced into an uneasy alliance with his old comrade Eadnoth, now sworn to William the Conqueror. When the sons of Harold return to reclaim their birthright, Styrkar must choose: stand with his blood brother or his brothers-in-arms?
