Als Barbara begin 2020 haar tweede boek succesvol lanceert, ontdekt de kapper een klein kaal plekje op haar achterhoofd. Twee weken na de boekpresentatie wordt de lockdown afgekondigd, de winkels sluiten en de boekverkoop valt stil. Het begin van een jaar vol rampspoed; een van haar beste vriendinnen blijkt ongeneeslijk ziek, haar schoondochter belandt in een depressie en haar dochter wordt verlaten door de vader van haar vijf maanden oude baby.
