Autor knihy byl evangelický kněz a Broučci jsou alegorickým zobrazením rodiny, která žije podle křesťanských hodnot, v souladu s přírodou. Šlo mu především o zobrazení významů, jako byly rodová soudržnost, vzájemná úcta, harmonie člověka a přírody, či poslušnost Bohu.
