In this intimate and eye-opening book, Diya Abdo—daughter of refugees, U.S. immigrant, English professor, and activist—shares the stories of seven refugees. Coming from around the world, they’re welcomed by Every Campus A Refuge (ECAR), an organization Diya founded to leverage existing resources at colleges to provide temporary shelter to refugee families.

The Expert by Experience ( EbE) network Podcast where our members discuss various issues from their authentic perspectives. The purpose of this podcast is to strengthen understanding, build bridges and break down the stigma toward people seeking asylum and refugees. The EbE network is a national group formed of people seeking asylum and those with refugee status. The groups are supported by Refugee Action. Free is the name of the podcast's music, composed and sung by one of our members, Phillips Alayande, known as O.Phils.

In 2017, five-year-old Julia traveled with her mother, Guadalupe, from Honduras to the United States. Her harrowing journey took her through Mexico in the cargo section of a tractor trailer. Then she was separated from her mother, who was held hostage by smugglers who exploited her physically and financially. At the United States border, Julia came through the processing center as an unaccompanied minor after being separated from her stepdad who was deported.
