Det var en råkold dag i marts 1921. Hundredvis af mennesker stod foran Øster Landsret. De ventede på at få et blik af den kvinde, der i en årrække havde myrdet et stort antal børn - efter eget udsagn måske helt op til seksten. Retssagen mod kvinden havde været en af de største og mest omtalte i årtier.
