Al menos eso es lo que se repite Achu, una y otra vez, cuando su ordenada vida -una meteórica carrera en un conocido bufete de San Diego, un novio atractivo y con una buena posición económica- salta por los aires y, de pronto, se encuentra en una cabaña perdida, en mitad de una tormenta de nieve y sin otra compañía que un desconocido de ascendencia nativo americana, de pocas palabras y con los ojos azules más bonitos del mundo. 58-year-old Jackie Douglas thinks she has everything she wants—kids, grandchildren and a comfortable retirement with her husband, Steve. Until one afternoon she comes home to find Steve packing a bag and her comfortable life suddenly moves out of bounds. Her best friend, Ros, a law firm boss with an appetite for life, laughter and (just the right amount of) wine, immediately leaps in to help Jackie back to her feet but soon finds herself feeling second best to Jackie's other priorities.

Once a celebrated author of short stories now in his twilight years, Anthony Peardew has spent half his life collecting lost objects, trying to atone for a promise broken many years before. Realising he is running out of time, he leaves his house and all its lost treasures to his assistant Laura, the one person he can trust to fulfil his legacy and reunite the thousands of objects with their rightful owners. But the final wishes of the Keeper of Lost Things have unforeseen repercussions which trigger a most serendipitous series of encounters....
