La sua fuga finisce nella Bottega delle Rarità di Madame Volkova, a Hong Kong, dove Mei si dedica al ritaglio delle figure di carta, un'arte antica che ha ereditato dalla madre, scomparsa quando era ancora una bambina, e che lei custodisce gelosamente insieme a un'altra dote: quella di comunicare con gli spiriti.
