A tracker-turned-conservationist, Jim Corbett was a renowned writer and wildlife expert. Born on 25 July 1875, he was appointed a Colonel in the British Indian Army and was often requested by the government of the United Province (modern-day Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand) to hunt man-eaters and leopards that spread terror in the Garhwal and Kumaon region. An avid photographer, Corbett's books, particularly Man-Eaters of Kumar and Jungle Lore, achieved international critical acclaim and earned global recognition.

Often regarded as Fieldings first novel, History of the Life of the Late Mr. Jonathan Wild the Great was likely penned before his more well-known works like Shamela and Joseph Andrews. This sharp satire targets Robert Walpole, drawing an intriguing parallel between the notorious gang leader and highwayman Jonathan Wild. Fielding cleverly likens the Whig party in Parliament to a band of thieves led by Walpole, whose relentless ambition to be seen as a Great Man—a title he often claimed—ultimately leads to his ironic downfall being hanged. Oscar Wilde wurde am 16.10.1854 in Dublin geboren. Sein Vater war Arzt, seine Mutter Dichterin. Wilde studierte in Dublin und Oxford. Seit 1879 lebte er in London. 1895 wurde er vom Vater seines Freundes Lord Douglas wegen homosexueller Neigungen angezeigt und zu zwei Jahren Zuchthaus verurteilt. Wilde starb am 30.11.1900 verarmt in Paris.
