"The Man Who Could Work Miracles" is a British fantasy-comedy short story by H. G. Wells first published in 1898 in The Illustrated London News. It carried the subtitle "A Pantoum in Prose." The story is an early example of Contemporary fantasy (not yet recognized, at the time, as a specific sub-genre).

James Jones brings powerful emotion and expression to his reading of the famous passage from his celebrated World War II novel in which Private Prewitt plays a version of Taps that expresses "the requiem of the common soldier".

In the first passage James Baldwin reads with passion about the suicide of a young black man in despair. The second passage takes place at his funeral service, where Baldwin speaks with both anger and eloquence, in the voice of the minister attempting to comfort his friends and family.

Dereks Leben wird von sorgfältiger Routine bestimmt. Als er eines Tages in dem kleinen Vorraum einer Bank eine Panikattacke erleidet, kommt ihm allerdings der gehörlose Basil zu Hilfe, der ihn von Anfang an fasziniert. Auch Basil kann den attraktiven Fremden nicht vergessen, doch er wurde schon einmal von einem Hörenden bitter enttäuscht.

Simba ist Arbeitselefant im Dschungel. Sein tiefster Wunsch ist es, frei zu sein. Dieses Ziel je zu erreichen scheint aber völlig aussichtslos. Bis eines Nachts etwas Unvorhergesehenes geschieht und eine aufregende Reise ihren Anfang nimmt, bei der ein gewisser Tempelaffe nicht ganz unschuldig ist. Wie das alles endet und der Elefant zum reichsten Elefanten der Welt wird, lest selber! Alles, was man über das Leben, die Freiheit und die eigene Schöpferkraft wissen muss, erzählen sich ein Affe und ein Elefant auf einer spannenden Flucht ins Glück.
