In February 1946, when twenty-year-old Malcolm Little was sentenced to eight to ten years in a maximum-security prison, he was a petty criminal and street hustler in Boston. A spokesman for the Nation of Islam until 1964, he was a vocal advocate for Black empowerment and the promotion of Islam within the Black community.

Malcolm X is a towering figure in American history and one of the most influential civil rights leaders of the 20th century. Born Malcolm Little in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1925, he would go on to become a force for change in the fight for Black liberation in America. From his early experiences with racism to his leadership role in the Nation of Islam, Malcolm X's life was marked by a relentless pursuit of justice and equality for Black people.
