However, Olive is surprised to find that the dowager is far from muddled. The sharp and imperious matriarch refuses to admit to her worries and sends Olive on her way.

October, 1923. Lady detective Olive Belgrave has a new case. Lady Agnes doesn’t believe in curses - especially ancient curses - and she hires Olive to prove her uncle wasn’t the victim of a malevolent mummy. Olive investigates and discovers the truth is much worse - it’s murder. Can Olive debunk the curse and reveal the true culprit before the mummy curse claims another victim?

September, 1923. Despite closing her first case, high society lady detective Olive Belgrave hasn’t found a new client. She’s taken a job as a hat model to pay for her poky boarding house room. But then a job offer comes her way: make discreet inquires about a famous author who’s disappeared. Olive travels to the English countryside to hunt for him.

Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel is the most famous vampire tale ever told. British solicitor Jonathan Harker finds himself imprisoned in a castle in Transylvania and begins to believe his host, Count Dracula, is not entirely human. As his horror mounts, he suspects that Dracula plans to invade and conquer England, one victim at a time.  

While studying medicine in the 1870s, Arthur Conan Doyle began writing and a decade later published his first novel featuring famous sleuth Sherlock Holmes. Doyle would soon adopt the short story as his means of portraying the exploits of his brilliant detective, and the first collection of stories, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, was published in 1892. 

Loveday Brooke is the first female detective created by a woman writer. Catherine Louisa Pirkis published stories about this smart, spirited sleuth in the 1880s, and they were collected into this anthology in 1894. In these tales, Loveday takes on cases involving wayward nuns, missing debutantes, a mysterious princess, and a ghost who resembles Napoleon, among other strange phenomena.
