Jean de La Fontaine är en fransk poet mest känd för sitt fabler och i mindre utsträckning hans berättelser. Det har också flera dikter, pjäser och operalibretton vilket bekräftar ambitionen av moralist. Han togs emot på den franska akademin i 1684. Det inspirerades fabulist av den grekisk-romerska antiken och särskilt Aesop, skriver han fabler som gör det känt.
