所謂堅気でない女性を描いて一世を風靡した永井荷風の典型的な作品の一つ。荷風は昭和10年頃から浅草に通い六区の劇場に入り浸っていたといわれているが、時代の風俗や女達をリアルに見つめる姿勢が文章の端々に伺える。戦争も激しくなった昭和19年にこのような作品が書かれたことも彼の個性が伺える。出版されたのは戦後昭和21年。
