Born in 1959 at Camp Le June Naval Base, he moved to Brockway, Pennsylvania, a year later where he lived for the next eighteen years. He graduated from Brockway Area High School in 1977, then attended Penn State University, where he earned a BS in Marketing and graduated in 1981. Shortly after graduation, Basil moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he owned and operated several businesses, including a nightclub, a grading business, a trucking business, and a marketing consulting firm. He also worked for several companies, including Philips Electronics Industrial Automation, Artivion Medical Devices, and Remington Medical Devices, as a marketing professional. He currently resides in Roswell, Georgia, and his hobbies include golf (7 handicap), history, economics, cooking, and writing.
