Beth received her first electronic communication aid at 4, ready to start mainstream school. From that first day, she wanted others, with little or no speech, to be heard, listened to, and understood. Sharing her own and others' lived experiences using AAC, her work offers practical advice for AAC users, families, support networks and professionals on developing the skills for life, including self-advocacy, leadership, independent living, and being a communication partner. She also discusses AAC assessment and using AAC at home, in the community, and at school. She then covers transitions, working with professionals and ‘owning’ your own communication resources. Beth’s work is grounded in lived experience, postgraduate studies in social policy, and years of elite sport, including representing Great Britain at the Paralympics. Beth is a multi-award-winning advocate, including being named on the Shaw Disability Power 100 as the UK's number 1 Grassroots and Community Advocate.
