Billie Maguire is the pen name of a somewhat reclusive author who prefers her words to be the focus of attention rather than her. That and the fact that she leads a very boring life indeed and doesn’t want anyone reading about that on the front of the red tops when she becomes an international bestseller.
She lives in rural Ireland with her (many) animals (mainly cats quelle surprise!) and despite always having aspirations to be a writer, this is her first serious attempt since her late teens which are sadly, naught more than a distant memory now.
The book evolved as part of her mid-life crisis. The title of ‘Arthur the Time-Travelling Cat’ came first. Then with time ticking remorselessly away, she decided to follow up on this and create, then write the story behind the title. It has been a long, laborious, interesting, frustrating, exhilarating, heart-breaking, satisfying and fun journey.
It also gave her a break from serving up food to a thankless set of animals who live to remind her of how pointless she is. None of them can read, to her knowledge but she is certain they would be united (probably for the first time ever) in their damning review that too much petting time was wasted on these human ramblings.
She is nevertheless proud of her meagre offering and can die happy now. Even happier if people actually buy her book!
It is to be hoped that she will defer her demise until the sequel is finished, but failing that, at least until the cats have been fed…
