During the 1960s, Bob Newkirk was a Florida Marine Patrol Officer and Deputy Sheriff, Indian River County, Vero Beach, Florida. On September 5, 1970, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) hijacked four airliners. The air pirates released the passengers and blew up all four airliners in the Syrian desert. One of the first Federal Air Marshals to be hired, Mr. Newkirk trained and flew more than 860,000 nautical miles in a three-year period aboard U.S. air carriers to most domestic airports and many foreign countries. He was sworn to protect aircraft, passengers, and crew from hijackings and authorized use of deadly force if necessary.

Retiring from the Federal AviationAdministration in 2002 after 32 years of service, he lives with his wife in Crestview, Florida. For many years as a volunteer at the U.S. Air Force Armament Museum, Eglin Air Force Base Florida, Mr. Newkirk is also a full-time writer. A few of his publications include articles for The Lake Worth Herald Press Outdoor Florida Magazine, Retired Eastern Airlines Pilots Association Magazine (REPArtee), and Reminisce Magazine. His 2016 historical Civil War novel, Life Beneath A Cemetery 1862, is available on Amazon.com in Paperback, Kindle, Audible and iTunes. It Happened Just That Way 1964 – 1973, released in 2018, is a compelling memoir of many of Mr. Newkirk’s state, county and federal law enforcement experiences, both on the ground and airborne. The Ghost in Butternut Gray, a paranormal experience, was released in 2019. The last two available on Amazon.com in Paperback and Kindle.
