For the sake of creative honesty, I shifted my focus from theology to humanity. I've grown weary of hearing my opinions. Not because I don't believe them, I'm tired of telling them. I'd rather tell a story.
I'll never forget when my third-grade teacher, Ms. Aslaksan of Buena Terra Elementary School in Buena Park, California, held up my fifty-word essay about the history of Thanksgiving for the entire class to see. She commended me for my excellent choice of words. At eight years old, the one thing I knew about myself was that I was a storyteller. Why? Because Ms. Aslaksan said so. That's why!
I have a confession. Michael, one of the main characters, might be an idealized version of me ;) Upon realization, I embraced the probability and let the story flow downstream. Hat's off to any writer who can keep themselves out of a story.
