What the Dog Knows: Scent, Science, and the Amazing Ways Dogs Perceive the World is a New York Times bestseller and was long listed for the PEN/E.O. Wilson Science Writing Award. A young readers edition of What the Dog Knows was published in October 2019, and the paperback edition was published in October 2020, by Simon & Schuster Young Readers division. Cat recently retired from NC State, where she taught creative nonfiction and science writing. She is currently researching and writing about the use of human remains detection dogs for archaeology. She lives with her husband, David, their German shepherd, Rev, and their Boykin spaniel, Brio, in Durham, North Carolina.
