Charmaine Hammond is a bestselling and award-winning author, professional speaker, expert in conflict resolution and psychological safety, educator, and executive producer who is passionate about building healthy workplaces, and telling stories that matter.

She is the author of 6 books and has contributed to 11 others. Her writing explores communication, resilience, collaboration, relationships, second chances, and the powerful connection between people and animals.

Her bestselling book, On Toby’s Terms, shares the remarkable story of Toby, a rescued dog whose mischievous behaviour led Charmaine and her husband on an unexpected journey of patience, purpose, and service. Toby went on to become an animal-assisted therapy dog, touching the lives of many people and inspiring additional books and educational presentations.

Charmaine is also a recognized workplace conflict resolution and leadership communication expert. For nearly 30 years, she has helped organizations navigate difficult and high-stakes conversations, resolve conflict, strengthen trust, and create psychologically safe workplaces. Her professional experience began in corrections and mental health before she became a mediator and opened her dispute resolution and mediation practice in 1997. She holds a master’s degree in Conflict Analysis and Management and has earned the Certified Speaking Professional designation. Her practical, real-world experience gives her a distinctive perspective on communication, relationships, resilience, and the conversations that shape our lives.

Charmaine also served as an executive producer of the award-winning animated film Back Home Again. Inspired by the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfire evacuation, the film uses storytelling to encourage conversations about community resilience, hope, and mental health. Its all-star voice cast includes Jeremy Renner, Martin Short, Kim Basinger, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Michael J. Fox, and many other celebrated performers.

Whether she is writing for children, business leaders, families, or communities, Charmaine’s work shares a common purpose: helping people communicate, collaborate, navigate challenges, and move forward with greater understanding.
