I was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, but we moved to Florida when I was two and I spent most of my years growing up in north Florida. After graduating from Florida State University, I worked in a couple of different locations and eventually wound up in western North Carolina, where I now reside. I am in my second marriage and between my current wife and I, we have four children. We are very active in our church and are involved in several ministries including working with couples as marriage mediators. We also have our own non-profit ministry called A City Not Forsaken which is a program designed to help people coming out of addiction recovery or incarceration successfully transition back into mainstream living.
