Connie-Vee Hawkins is an artist originally from Los, Angeles California, but she also claims the Washington D.C metro area as her home. After spending over 20 years as an educator helping children learn to read, Connie-Vee noticed a lack of stories that contained characters of color, this inspired her to create enriching stories with more diversity. Her love for storytelling has extended to the canvas as an award-winning visual artist and public speaker, where she tells her story of overcoming setbacks and the role art played in her healing journey. Connie-Vee’s fun stories promote empowerment, as well as giving, unity, and kindness to others. She has two adult children who, when they were younger, inspired many of the stories she wrote and read to her students. Fun Fact: In the story, "The Maker of Oils", the oil Mr. Sola seeks is called Allauria. The word is a portmanteau derived from the names Allera and Aurelia, Connie-Vee’s two beautiful daughters.
