Dr. Samlaska graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine and immediately entered active duty service in the United States Army. He received his training in internal medicine at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He completed his dermatology training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology
During his 14 years of military service Dr. Samlaska was actively involved in academic medicine, teaching at both Tripler Army Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Center. An expert in telemedicine, he was deployed to Europe to establish telemedicine in Bosnia in support of Operation Joint Endeavor. He was attached to the Combat Casualty Research Center, an organization dedicated to providing operational medical support for all branches of the military, the DEA, the FBI, and the Secret Service.
His first novel was published in 1998, titled Eucarion. It is a military, medical, science fiction techno-thrill, based on his many years in the military. His second novel, Terminal Cascade, was written 20 years ago and wasn't published until 2021 after updating it for current events.
