Born in London, as the daughter of a manager of a large multinational company, she has travelled extensively since her childhood, spending many years in Japan, Indonesia and India, where she came into contact with meditation and ancient Oriental philosophies . After graduating in Anthropological Sciences and Oriental Languages, she began working for non-profit organizations in India, Europe and West Africa, coming into contact with children, women, girls who lived in painful situations and unthinkable for a Westerner. In India, she has worked in support of a Group of Single Women - a category of people with no chance of help from anyone - helping them redeem themselves and live independently through craft work. It was there that they started calling her Dayini - the one who gives compassion. Marya is a loyal supporter of the power of gratitude and compassion, but also of social action and redemption. She now lives in London, along with her husband Robert Barnett, a doctor, and her 8-year-old daughter, but continues to travel a lot - giving yoga and meditation classes for adults and children around the world (in the UK, France, Italy, Spain). Because of her acknowledged commitment to minorities and women, she was recently called upon to join the Equal Opportunities Commission in Italy. She is a certified yoga teacher, meditation coach and is a passionate speaker and writers who explores the themes of identity through meditation, spirituality and action.
