I am a former churchwide communications worker, youth minister, and newspaper reporter who has owned and operated an editing business out of my home since 1990. I’ve always enjoyed sports and games—as both participant and fan.
There’s much to like, even love, about sports. From my boyhood I’ve played baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, disc golf, soccer, chess, Scrabble … to name only some of my interests. I’ve also been a fan, particularly of Major League Baseball, as well as pro/college football and basketball, along with pro golf and tennis. And, of course, the Olympics. Sports for me over the years have been a mostly positive, yet mixed, blessing.
Another significant part of my life has been—and is—my Christian faith. There have been rocky times, especially in my teens and early 20s, when doubts were more prevalent than beliefs. I’ve increasingly seen the benefits of spiritual practices and disciplines. So this book is an attempt to bring together two vital aspects of my life.
Vera and I celebrated our 47th anniversary in early August 2022. We have two adult sons, Tim and Jason, and two young grandchildren—Emma in Ithaca, New York, and Elah in nearby Elkhart, Indiana.
