From factory floor to fiction forge: A late bloomer's quest for the truth
Trading in forty-five years of factory grit for the boundless plains of the written word, I began my literary journey at 62 years young. Nestled amidst the breathtaking and picturesque mountains of Western North Carolina, where I frequently hike when I am not lounging around the house with our two mischievous 3-year-old dachshunds, I found a voice I never knew I possessed.
While the hundreds of history books over the years helped to shape my worldview, the core of my being, I think, rests on the one essential quality that I discovered I possessed at a much earlier age: the ability and willingness to adapt. If new data presents itself, I readily change my mind, for I think truth is a journey, not a destination.
My novel dares to explore some small, lesser-known facts pertaining to the pre-American Civil War Trans-Atlantic slave industry, weaving a narrative into a tapestry that I think challenges and confronts accepted norms. Prepare to be engaged, infuriated, and ultimately, spurred to think critically about the shadows of history. I implore the reader to embrace the process. I must confess, in closing, that my aim was not simply to entertain but to illuminate and inspire conversations that ripple long after the final page of this short work.
