Dezi Shepperd is the founder of Pearlway Press, a children's book publisher dedicated to creating stories that support emotional growth and celebrate children exactly as they are.
As a proud neurodivergent author with a background in psychology, Dezi writes picture books that help children feel seen, understood, and capable. Diagnosed with dyscalculia and ADHD as an adult while working for the New York City Department of Education, she understands firsthand what it feels like when learning doesn't come easily — and how powerful the right story can be.
Her books, including Cassidy and the Mixed-Up Numbers (selected for the UNC Chapel Hill STEMIE Curated Disability & STEM Booklist) and Emery Jack the Copycat, are designed to spark meaningful conversations in classrooms, support social-emotional learning goals, and give children the language to understand their feelings and advocate for themselves.
Dezi's mission is simple: to create stories that comfort, guide, and empower young readers — especially those who need reassurance that different doesn't mean less.
When she's not writing, Dezi speaks to classrooms, parents, and educators about the courage it takes to thrive in a world not built for every brain.
Through Pearlway Press, she's building something intentional: stories that celebrate confidence, curiosity, and the quiet strength it takes to find your voice.
