Donald Frank Brown was born in Inverness, Scotland, in 1943 during the second world war. In his gap year, before studying English at Exeter College, Oxford, he worked in Paris selling the New York Times. After teaching English in Brighton and the United Nations school in New York, he settled in Jersey and founded a language school. He is married with three children and ten grandchildren. After studying at Exeter College, Oxford, Donald Brown spent several years as an English teacher, first at a Brighton grammar school, and then at international schools abroad, including the United Nations School in New York. After that, he and his family moved to the Island of Jersey, where he started a language school.
