She is the author of five works of fiction and poetry, including The Silver Baron's Wife, which won the PEN/New England Discovery Award and the Foreword Reviews Bronze Award for Best General Adult Fiction, and Scenes from the Heartland, a collection of stories inspired by the lithographs of American artist Thomas Hart Benton that one reader called "an utterly thrilling read" and another described as "short fiction at its best."
Her work has appeared in the Virginia Quarterly Review, the Saturday Evening Post, Prairie Schooner, the New York Quarterly, Writer's Digest, and many other journals and anthologies. She was a Founding Editor of the Bellevue Literary Review and is the founder and publisher of Tiferet, an interfaith literary journal with readers across the world.
Donna has been awarded a Bread Loaf Scholarship, a Johns Hopkins University Writing Seminars Fellowship, grants from the New Jersey Council on the Arts and the Poetry Society of Virginia, and a Summer Literary Seminars Scholarship. Several of her short stories have been performed by Tony Award winning actress MaryAnn Plunkett at the Playwrights Theatre in New Jersey and by professional actors at the Salmagundi Club in Manhattan.
She lives at the intersection of art, history, and the deeply human, and her readers would not have it any other way.
