Dovie King, JD Lawyer. Author. Survivor. Truth-Teller. Creative troublemaker. Not necessarily in that order. I’m Dovie King, and after years of navigating the legal system, both professionally and personally, I decided to create the work I needed but couldn’t find. Sometimes that looks like a Latina lawyer memoir. Sometimes it looks like legal and social critique. Sometimes it looks like cozy coloring books for adults, because healing does not always arrive in a footnote, a courtroom, or a 300-page chapter. Sometimes it arrives with a coloring pencil or marker in your hand and ten quiet minutes to yourself. I’m a graduate of Brown University and Northeastern University School of Law, and I’ve practiced law in California, New York, and Massachusetts. My work has focused on public interest advocacy. I’ve also spent years teaching and mentoring law students at Harvard Law School, breaking down complex legal systems and reminding people that justice isn’t theoretical. It’s personal. As an author and creator, I write about survival, motherhood, healing, law, broken systems, resilience, rest, and the everyday absurdity of trying to be a functional human while the laundry remains undefeated. My voice is honest, sharp, compassionate, and unapologetically funny because sometimes you either laugh or lose your mind. Whether I’m writing serious nonfiction, creating coloring books, or telling the truth about systems and survival, my goal is the same: to help people feel seen, steadied, and less alone. In my free time, I’m raising my son, traveling, avoiding my inbox, and wondering if the laundry will ever fold itself. Spoiler: it won’t.
