Dr. Kelsi Bracmort is a native Washingtonian who adores DC and the rich history offered to children and young people of all ages. She was inspired to write Simone Visits the Museum with the hope that a character like Simone will inspire all children to be proud of who they are, and to explore all that DC has to offer. She earned a B.S. in Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University, and both a M.S. and Ph.D. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from Purdue University. You can find out more about Kelsi and her books at simoneshinesdc.com, on Facebook @simoneshinesdc, and on Instagram @simoneshinesdc. Dr. Bracmort is a participating author in the PEN/Faulkner Writers in Schools program - a literary arts outreach program that brings free books into DC schools, and arranges for the authors of those books to visit classrooms and discuss the writing life. Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) — the nation’s largest children’s literacy non-profit — interviewed Dr. Bracmort about her book Simone Visits the Museum and put together support materials for the book that educators and parents can use. The interview and support materials are available at www.rif.org/literacy-central/book/simone-visits-museum.
