Edith Andersen was born and raised in Reykjavík, Iceland, the daughter of a Danish father and an Icelandic mother. In 1967, she crossed the Atlantic to visit her sister—who had married an American serviceman—and ended up building a full and unexpected life in the United States. Along the way, she earned a couple of degrees, married, and raised six children, one dog, a goldfish, and two very determined gerbils. She officially retired in 2005, though those who know her would say she’s simply shifted careers—from full-time mother and educator to writer, gardener, and curious soul. Edith is the author of five charming children’s books, each filled with humor, heart, and a quiet wisdom that speaks to young readers and grown-ups alike. Her first collection of essays, Savoring Life in the Latter Lanes, is a warm invitation to reflect on humor, relationships, spirituality, health, and the wisdom gathered over time. She writes a weekly blog, tends a thriving wildlife habitat in her Michigan yard, knits through the winters, and spends her days preparing for the final season of life—not with fear, but with intention. She is learning to listen more deeply, live more gently, and savor what remains.
