Elaine Koyama grew up on a sheep, wheat, and sugar beet farm in eastern Montana. She was the youngest in a family of eight sansei (third generation) Japanese Americans, a cheerleader, shot putter and graduate of Stanford University. She spent twenty years at Cargill as a corporate manager, twenty years as an entrepreneur, and plans on spending the next twenty years writing. She has called Montana, California, Iowa, Missouri, Colorado, Minnesota, and New Mexico, home at different points in her life.
Koyama is the mother of three adult children with seven grandchildren. She moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where she is active coaching at First Serve, New Mexico, a tutoring and tennis non-profit, in addition to teaching and facilitating writing classes and retreats at Santa Fe Community College Continuing Education. Santa Fe has proven to be a rich landscape for writing and engaging in the community. Follow her blog to keep up with her latest adventures, and other works-in-progress.
