Evelyn Akullo Otwili is a follower of the LORD, a wife, mother, teacher, and an icon of Hope. She was born and raised under the terror and torment of the two decades armed conflict in Northern Uganda, East Africa, between the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) and Uganda Government. Orphaned at a tender age, Evelyn was a night commuter who spent nights sleeping at bus stations and on church verandas for safety from abductions. She was displaced by war at a very tender age and endured systematic trauma witnessing relatives and close friends killed or forcefully taken away by rebel fighters into captivity, many of whom were killed or are still missing.
Evelyn Akullo Otwili's mission is to minister to the hearts of women and those in need of hope. Compassion is key component of Evelyn's ministry and life, followed by wisdom and understanding for those who have lost hope so they can regain and operated in their God-given potential, call, and destiny.
For eight years (2007-2015) Evelyn worked directly with conflict-affected communities and individuals including massacre survivors, formerly abducted persons of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), orphans. widows, children born of ear, maim victims, families of missing persons, victims and survivors of sexual crimes, youths, communities transitioning from years in Internally Displaced Persons' (IDP) Camps, and a general populace affected by the conflicts in Uganda. She actively engaged in action-oriented research, capturing the different experiences of individuals and communities, their day-to-day post-conflict challenges as well as recommendations as an important part of healing, process of reimagining peace, social cohesion, and other means to influence local and national policies. The research was done at community level with the affected persons and communities. Evelyn also became a mentor and provided support and life skills to many people through counseling, baking, agriculture, education support, and safe water provision. Evelyn is dedicated to giving hope to people, making them use their adversities as ladders for success in life and reaching their full potential.
In July 2019, Evelyn responded to the Voice that told her to write a book. For seven days and nights, Evelyn handwrote BeHind the Shine, a manuscript that forever marked her life.
Evelyn graduated with a Master of Arts Degree from the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, University of Notre Dame (USA), and holds a Bachelor of Development Studies from Gulu University, Uganda. Evelyn previously worked with teen moms and their children at New Legacy Charter School, Aurora, Colorado. Evelyn currently works at Primrose Tallgrass, Aurora, Colorado, and owns Bundles of Joy Childcare. She also continues to provide mentorship, counseling, economic, education, and life skills support to people back in Uganda.
