Gary’s story began with a childhood of mixed messages and sexual abuse. This was followed by other losses and numerous grief experiences. Ultimately, a painful past led Gary into a life of helping wounded people heal and grow. A former college minister, missionary in Japan, pastor, and hospice chaplain, Gary is a popular keynote, conference, and seminar speaker at a wide variety of venues. He continues to serve as an author, pastor, and grief specialist.
Gary is the author of twenty books, including the award-winning bestsellers Shattered: Surviving the Loss of a Child, Grief Walk: Experiencing God After the Loss of a Loved One, and The Grief Guidebook. Gary has won four international book awards and his books have been honored as finalists eight times. He is the recipient of the Editor's Choice Award of Literary Excellence by Readers House, London.
