Howard Odentz is a five-time Amazon #1 bestselling author and playwright whose work spans supernatural thrillers, young adult and emerging adult fiction, musical theater, and epic fantasy.
A lifelong resident of the gray area between western Massachusetts and north central Connecticut, Howard draws inspiration from the foothills of the Berkshires and the small towns of the Bay and Nutmeg States, frequently weaving these familiar landscapes into his stories.
While working as a director of communications for MassMutual Financial Group, Howard turned his creative talents toward musical theater, writing the books, music, and lyrics for two full-length musicals that received regional and national productions. After leaving the corporate world, he embraced fiction, publishing his first novel in 2012. Since then, he has written six novels, two novellas, and a collection of short stories.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, Howard ventured beyond his familiar world of thrillers and supernatural fiction to create The Mouse Who Broke the Sky, an illustrated epic fantasy about courage, compassion, and the extraordinary resilience of children affected by war. Collaborating with longtime friend and artist Karen Burke, whose imaginative artwork combines photography and graphic design, he brought a richly illustrated fantasy world to life.
During the book's development, Howard, Karen, and a group of like-minded artists and friends also established Puddleby Charities, a nonprofit organization dedicated to using the arts in all forms to help populations in need. Proceeds from The Mouse Who Broke the Sky will support Ukrainian children affected by war, with the organization's charitable efforts expanding to help other vulnerable populations in the future.
