Like Shakespeare’s Miranda, Irma Fritz is enchanted with brave new worlds and its wondrous people. Her novels and short fiction explore connections across borders and cultures. Born in Ukraine, Irma grew up in a small German town whose name few can pronounce, studied creative writing at California State University, Los Angeles; bicycled across the U.S., and spent a summer in the Canadian bush. She makes her home in the Seattle area and continues to explore foreign worlds. Her latest novel, When There Was No Moon, is a tale of love and murder in Pakistan. It won the PNWA Unpublished Literary Novel Contest and took finalist honors in the librarian-judged Nancy Pearl Book Award competition. Irma’s fascination with the medieval hilltop towns of central Sicily, whose pagan roots are woven into daily life, informs her current work.
